Dr Mrs. Sarita Boodhoo is a well-known socio-cultural personality of Mauritius. Groomed in the Vedic way of life, she has devoted her life from a tender age to dedicated and pioneering work in the socio economic and cultural development of the country.
She is an eminent diaspora personality and scholar. She set up the Mauritius Bhojpuri Institute way back in 1982 as an NGO which brought out the famous Bhojpuri song Pani Nai Ba and conducted hundreds of Bhojpuri weeks throughout the country to raise awareness for Bhojpuri language and cultural heritage.
She is the Chairperson of the Bhojpuri Speaking Union under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage since 3 August 2012. Sarita Boodhoo has travelled extensively and has lectured on Hinduism and the socio-cultural history of the Girmitiyas and Indian diasporic studies in general. She is a social activist, a writer and journalist and is well versed in Indology and Indian Diasporic Studies.
Dr Mrs. Sarita Boodhoo holds a B.A Hons Degree in Geography from Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta University under a Government of India Cultural Scholarship. She also has a Masters and PhD in Hindi from Vanarasi and a Diploma in Advanced Journalism from Germany and France.
